Yellow Class Throughout the years oppression has taken numerous different forms and ruined countless lives. No matter where, when, or who the oppression is affecting, they are all lessons to be learned and are a horrifying reminder that we as a nation have participated in one of these tragic events. The Civil Rights Movement and the Holocaust were tragedies that took place in two different countries and targeted two different races, yet they still both took many lives, and made many people feel as if they had no voice. It killed countless numbers of people from disease, starvation, gas chambers, and so many other cruel ways. The Civil Rights Movement was a loathing for people unlike the ideal “superior race”, however many people were also killed during this time. the Civil Rights Movement had many protests and many people that took a stand against their discrimination. The Holocaust on the other hand didn’t really have many protests, although there were a few. Another big difference between the two events is that the Civil Rights Movement took place in one Country between the states. The Holocaust was started by one man with dreams of wiping out an entire race worldwide. The goals of the two were different, yet similar. The Holocaust was a major upscaling of the Civil Rights Movement. The overall goal of the Holocaust was to entirely wipe out the Jews because in Hitler’s eyes they were not the ideal race. The overall goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to keep the “superior race” or whites away from the “non-superior race” or blacks. It makes them believe that they are allowed the right to hate and torment a group of people for no reason other than they want to. I personally believe that the Holocaust was the more horrific event of the two, because of the concentration camps and gas chambers. Yet both horrify me and make my heart ache for all those involved. It upsets me so much that these poor people didn’t even have a choice. Sadly there is nothing we can do to help them now. The past is in the past. All we can do is hope that the horrible oppression taking place in the world right now will end and that history will cease to repeat
