Luther King's concern with the economy of both black and white people showed his passion for achieving equality beyond the basics. "There is nothing quite so effective as a refusal to cooperate economically with the forces and institutions which perpetuate evil..."(DOC F). Martin Luther King's method of nonviolent refusal to engage in the "evil" that society has constructed, had an insightful goal. The ultimate goal was to make a point to white people that without the spending of black people, the economy would not be the same way it is. "Operation Breadbasket have increased the income of the Negro community by more than two million.."(DOC F). Not only has King made a point to the white community, his strategy benefited the black community economically. Cleverly thinking, King achieved a peaceful and effective outcome. "This is nonviolence at its peak of power, when it cuts into the profit margin of a business in order to bring about a more just distribution of jobs and opportunities for Negro wage earners and consumers" (DOC F). Rather than making broad commands, Martin Luther King explains the deeper meaning of simply refusing to buy from consumers. Successfully, it caught the attentions of white people, making it their concern as well, so the detrimental economical state that black people went through must be dealt with. The power that King's logic had been enough to make a significant impact to the 1960s, thus making his philosophy the most sense.
Martin Luther King's ambition for equality is evident in his vigorous pushing for integration. "struggle together, to go to jail together, to climb up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day" (DOC B). Although some circumstances can be negative, he does not want that to hold back equality, everyone should cope or be punished the same way. Once people become accustomed to being together, the thought of segregation will be of the past. "Negroes and whites study side by side in the socially healing context of the classroom.."(DOC D). Despite race, both groups can heal and grow together as they learn new content. Education is the key to bringing together people since it is a distraction to what goes on beyond the doors. "the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood" (DOC B). In spite of a past of slavery, people will come together in harmony as if they are a family. Oppression that has affected their older generation would hopefully be left in that era. Integration is a crucial factor in achieving equality since it would bring groups together, which is what America needed in the 1960s.
