The Americans with Disabilities Act guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in such areas as employment, public accommodations, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications ("Americans with disabilities," 2006). The Civil Rights Movement began in the 1960’s with the Women’s Rights and Disability Rights Movement’s. Women and minorities became protected by legislation passed by the U.S. congress in the 1960’s. Federal legislation did not protect people with disabilities until later in the 1990’s. transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications for individuals with disabilities.
Employment gives those with disabilities whom are qualified applicants the opportunity for no discrimination in the workplace. Employers are to accommodate any person with a disability, be it employee, patron, or guest. All complaints may be filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the complainant can receive back pay and court orders to stop discrimination ("The Americans with," 2013).
Any public accommodations must make changes in policies, practices, and procedures to avoid discrimination charges. New construction is required to make accommodations for wheel chairs, and accessibility for those with disabilities. Alterations to primary function areas must have an accessible path to bathrooms, telephones, and drinking fountains ("The Americans with,"
2013).
Hearing or vision impaired individuals require auxiliary aids and service. This is only required if it does not result in an undue burden. It gives those with a disability an equal opportunity to participate ("The Americans with," 2013). Failure to make accommodations will result in a lawsuit from the Attorney General.
All public transportation must accommodate persons with a disability unless it causes an undue burden ("The Americans with," 2013). This includes public buses, the rail system, and buses or vans privately operated. Complaints are taken care of through the Department of Transportation, private lawsuits, and the Attorney General.
Governments cannot discriminate against qualified persons with disabilities. Government facilities, services, and communications must be accessible consistent with the requirements of section 504 of the rehabilitation Act of 1973 ("The Americans with," 2013). Complaints can be filed with Federal agencies.

Commission.
Accommodations for the hearing and vision impaired shall include Braille, large print, audiotapes, and telephone relay services.
Accommodations for public buildings shall be readily accessible for those with disabilities. Public transportation will accommodate the disabled in
buses and vans. Employers are to make accommodations for and not discriminate against those with disabilities. Employers are prohibited in discriminating in all employment practices, which include hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment ("The Americans with," 2013). Over all, the safety of the disabled is a huge concern to the government. The status of “normal” shall be maintained for all individuals, regardless of their race, color, religion, or disability.
As an administrator, I will follow all regulations and statues to accommodate those with disabilities. The employees I am responsible for will not be allowed to treat or act differently with any persons, either patient, patient family, or other staff members. I will have procedures in place and trained personnel that will follow these procedures so everybody that comes into the office will not feel different in any
way.
