William Shakespeare – 23 April 1616) He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon".
Shakespeare was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613 at age 49, where he died three years later. Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive, and there has been considerable speculation about such matters as his physical appearance, sexuality, religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others.
Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613.
Shakespeare was a respected poet and playwright in his own day, but his reputation did not rise to its present heights until the 19th century. The Romantics, in particular, acclaimed Shakespeare's genius, and the Victorians worshipped Shakespeare with a reverence that George Bernard Shaw called "bardolatry". In the 20th century, his work was repeatedly adopted and rediscovered by new movements in scholarship and performance. His plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, an alderman and a successful glover originally from Snitterfield, and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farmer. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and baptised there on 26 April 1564. His actual date of birth remains unknown, but is traditionally observed on 23 April, Saint George's Day. This date, which can be traced back to an 18th-century scholar's mistake, has proved appealing to biographers, since Shakespeare died 23 April 1616. He was the

There is little documentation on Shakespeare’s life, therefore his birthdate is unknown; however, Shakespeare was baptized April 26th, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Shakespeare’s father was a public official and could not afford higher education. Researchers assume that he attended King’s New School in Stratford where he learned reading and writing. Although he received some education, the stories that are said to have been written by him contain “elaborate metaphors and rhetorical phrases”, things that are widely considered too complex for a writer with so little education. There are many historians, writers, and researchers that argue whether or not Shakespeare was actually Shakespeare. Shakespeare’s (if infact he did write the widely accredited works) most known stories, plays, sonnets, and poems include: Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello. Although it is possible he may have written the stories, the evidence is not in his…

SHAKESPEARE, WILLIAM (1564—1616), English poet, player and playwright, was baptized in the parish church of Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire on the 26th of April. Birth 1564. The exact date of his birth is not known. 18th-century antiquaries, William Oldys and Joseph Greene, gave it as April 23, but without quoting authority for their statements, and the fact that April 23 was the day of Shakespeare’s death in 1616 suggests a possible source of error. In any case his birthday cannot have been later than April 23, since the inscription upon his monument is evidence that on April 23, 1616, he had already begun his fifty-third year. His father, John Shakespeare, was a burgess of the recently constituted corporation of Stratford, and had already…

He came from a family of yeomen, and he gained many prestigious positions in the community. John was also a prominent man in Stratford. By 1560, he was one of fourteen burgesses which formed the town council. He had a remarkable run of success as a merchant, alderman, and high bailiff of Stratford, during William´s early childhood. However, his fortune declined in the late 1570s. Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden, was a rich local heiress. She inherited most of her father´s landowning and farming estate when he died. William Shakespeare was born on April 26, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Over the course of 20 years, Shakespeare wrote plays that capture the complete range of human emotion and conflict. Though no birth records exist, church records indicate that a William Shakespeare was baptized at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon on April 26, 1564. William was the third child of John Shakespeare, a leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a local landed heiress. William had two older sisters, Joan and Judith, and three younger brothers, Gilbert, Richard and Edmund. Before William's birth, his father became a successful merchant and held official positions as alderman and bailiff, which is an office resembling a mayor. Records exist of William's childhood but none stating anything about his education. Based on papers they have it state he most likely attended the King's New School, in Stratford, which taught reading, writing and the classics. Being a public official's child, William would have undoubtedly qualified for free tuition. William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway on November 28, 1582, in Worcester, in Canterbury Province. Hathaway was from a small village very close to the west of Stratford William was 18 and Anne was 26. Anne turned out pregnant and had their first child, which was a girl they named Susanna, she was born on May 26, 1583. Two years later, on February 2, 1585, twins Hamnet and Judith were born. Hamnet later died of unknown causes at age 11. After the birth of the twins, there are seven years of William Shakespeare's life where no records exist. Scholars call this period the "lost years,". One theory is that he might have gone into hiding from the local landlord, Sir Thomas Lucy. Another possibility is that he might have been working as an assistant schoolmaster in Lancashire. It is generally believed he arrived in London in the mid- to late 1580s and may have found work as a horse attendant at some of London's finer theaters.…
