Statistical Information
Pros
Cons
Official Information: Uniform Crime Report (UCR)
Statistics are broken down by age, sex, race, locations, and many more factors.
This is the only report that police agencies report to in order to get statistics.
Official information relies solely on crimes reported, not crimes unsolved or unreported.
The official information shows no actual total amount of crimes, and it seems that people believe because something is not addressed on this report, it may not be an issue.
Unofficial Information: Self-Report Data
Such reports show statistics that police departments may not have, because reports may also be based on interviews and witness testimony.
Gathering het information that police departments may not have give a better look into a neighborhood and the direction it is going.
People may lie about crimes committed in interviews.
The information is not as solid as actual police reports and evidence provided.
