As the story unfolds, one can see connections between the myth and the movie. Perseus, half-human, half-god, was a major focus in both variations. Defeating more than one enemy, to seek revenge for his mother and save Princess Andromeda, Perseus became a hero figure to all Greeks. Also, Princess Andromeda was to be sacrificed to the gods, for the gods had been enraged. Medusa, a gorgon, was Perseus’ main mission: he was to cut off her head. In the original story, Perseus killed Medusa and the Ketos; in the movie, however, Perseus conquered giant scorpions, Medusa, and the Kraken. After saving Princess Andromeda from the Ketos, Perseus married her; Perseus did not marry Princess Andromeda, after saving her from the Kraken, in the film. Also in the movie, Perseus’ mother, Danae, was killed. Perseus was to save Danae, from King Polydectes in the myth, by cutting off Medusa’s head and bringing the head back to King Polydectes.
