Classical School 2
This paper is about Classical School of Management. In this paper I will discuss what Classical School is, when it was started and how it can be used in today’s work force. I will also answer the following scenario that was presented to me as a director of a Tri-County Home Health Agency how would I handle a lay-off and what steps would I follow.
Classical School of management began in the late 1800s and continued through the 1950s. It included such theorists as Henri Fayol, Mary Parker Follett, Henry Grant, and Max Weber. They believed in structured management approaches, and that money motivates employees (Dunn, 2010). The classical school of management emphasizes “command and control.” Henri Fayol is also known as the father of modern management he defined administrative management how to structure an organization for high performance (Dunn, 2010). In Classical School you can identify how modern the management style is. This management style has developed five functions of management: planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating, and controlling. These five functions play an important role in management because you have to know plan and organize a team and company. You have to know how to coordinate a daily routine and how to control and command your employees so that they will get the work done like you want. Thanks to these contributors and others, the basic ideas regarding scientific management developed. They include the following: * Developing new standard methods for doing each job * Selecting, training, and developing workers instead of allowing them to choose their own tasks and train themselves
