ACCORDING TO GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
1. first class bricks
2.second class bricks
3.third class bricks
4.over burnt bricks or jama bricks
first class bricks:
These bricks are table moulded and they are burnt in kilns
CHARACTERISTICS:
*A first class brick should be well burnt and regular in shape and size.
*Edges should be sharp and well defined.
*It surface should be smooth,clean and free from cracks
*water absorption should be more than 16/ of its dry weight of water when kept immersed for 16 hours.
*It should produce a clear metallic ringing sound when struck with another bricks.
*IT should have a minimum crushing strength of 10N/MM2
*It should not break when dropped from a height of 1 to 2 meters
*its specific gravity should be 1.8
*it should be sufficiently hard and sound.
USES
*As ballast for rc works.
*For flooring and walling purposes.
*shaped bricks are used in arches ,carvings and arches.
SECOND CLASS BRICKS
These bricks are ground moulded and they are burnt in kilns.
CHARACTERISTICS
*Second class bricks should be well burnt but irregular in shape and size.
*It has a rough surface.
*It is not free from cracks and lumps.
*It does not have a uniform colour
*it has fine ,compact and uniform texture
*it shall produce a ringing sound when struck with another brick
*It should have a minimum crushing strength of 7 N/MM2
USES
Such type of bricks are used in unimportant situation and for internal walls.
THIRD CLASS BRICKS
The bricks are underburnt and are not uniform in size and shape is called third class bricks. These bricks are ground moulded and they ar burn in clamps
CHARACTERISTICS
*A third class brick
