I learned how important the first contact approach is, how using a loud clear voice when you greet, identify yourself, give a reason for intervening and appropriate closure makes the public aware that you are there. Also gives a clear understanding to the individuals why you are there and it also sets the tone for how the rest of the satiation could playout. During one of the recent scenarios I got to observe the officers were acting upon an apprehension order and the person did not want to go with the officers. I learned the importance of language and paralanguage during the part of the scenario when one of the officers got frustrated with the person who they were supposed to apprehend because he did not want to go with the officers. The officers voice kept getting louder and his tone became very aggressive which changed the tone in the room to uncomfortable. The second officer gestured to the frustrated officer that she was going to take control and for him to take a step back I learned that this was a great use of kinesics. The second officer used active listening as a de-escalation strategy to calm both brothers I did not realize you could do that. She spoke to them in a calm but firm tone and clearly stated to them that she understood why they were upset however they have to act upon the order the brother could meet them at the hospital and she told them that if they like the older brother could speak to his lawyer and then she apprehended the
