Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness
Cleanliness is next to Godliness” teaches us to keep our surroundings clean and green. Efforts to make my city a clean city will be seriously endless. I can make every possible effort to make my city a clean and green city. I can surely visit several barren lands and try to grow some plants and trees. I would frequently report the media about the efforts done to make my city - a clean and green city so that I can spread awareness.
I can plan to make some groups mainly ‘eco-friendly clubs' to make my city a better place to live. We, in a group, can arrange some awareness sessions, lectures, seminars, workshops, contests, etc… to increase the contribution of people towards the environment.
I can plan some weekends which can include programmes like cleaning the society, separating the dry and wet garbage. We can also request people to not pollute the river water by washing utensils, clothes or also request them to keep the rivers clean.
I can go to the river side and spread awareness to install an eco-friendly Ganpati idol which will not pollute the river. I can also make a small tank or pool by the riverside, so that instead of putting the flowers in a large water body i.e. river, we can prefer putting it into the tank which can be regularly cleaned.
We can request the Municipal Corporation for spittoons by the road-side so that people don’t spit anywhere they wish. Public dustbins can be kept so that the garbage doesn’t lie anywhere. PCMC toilets can be constructed near every landmark so that the people shouldn’t defecate anywhere by the road side.Like the Olympic motto is stronger, higher faster, I can try to make a strong team with high aims and objectives which can help the society as soon as possible. God created the beautiful world, he expects that the hands given by him to us should always work towards beautifying his creation.

How will you make your city clean and green?

It is aptly said that cleanliness is next to godliness. One should be alarmed at the increasing numbers of factories polluting the environment and improper waste disposal. The amount of garbage filling the streets is beyond tolerable limits. So it is high time that everyone should take necessary steps in making the city clean and green. When every individual contributes what he can towards the environment, there will be wonders happening. As a student, I will first inculcate the habit of throwing waste only in dustbins , within myself as well as my family and friends. Littering the roads makes the city very polluted and this can be reduced when people are aware not to do so. Ofcourse stricter regulations and laws are necessary. But as a student , I will do my best in spreading awareness on the necessity to keep our environment clean and green. Students can form teams and spread awareness on how to keep our places clean , explain about the diseases like malaria, cholera that may arise in filthy places.

People should be educated on the differences between biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and they should be taught on how to dispose them properly. Proper waste disposal will help making the city cleaner. To make the city cleaner, students should take on the cause of planting saplings. Every student should start growing saplings at home or in nearby environment. One should also take care of things like watering etc. In these days when deforestation is beyond control , individual measures like this is necessary. With the help of schools and local municipality, students should also distribute saplings to people and encourage them to join in this green movement.

Students should know , follow and advocate the 3R rule - reduce, reuse , recycle. One should realise the lack of resources today and should reduce the usage of unnecessary luxuries. A careless attitude of neglecting things and disposing as waste can...

A Green Environment for Now and the Future
In the past, the major need of people in this world was arable land. Man did not have to think about animate things. However, now the adverse effects on forests through over-population and the development of various chemical elements in the atmosphere have led to irregular rainfall and global warming. This global warming has brought changes in climate, including making perennial snow mountains melt, thereby adversely affecting not only human beings but also other living species.

This dangerous situation is being taken very seriously by the world. In the past the perennial snow mountains of Tibet had very thick snow. Older people say that these mountains were covered with thick snow when they were young and that the snows are getting sparser which may be an indication of the end of the world. It is a fact that climate change is a slow process taking thousands of years to realize its effect. Living beings and plant life on this planet also undergo change accordingly. Man's physical structure too changes from generation to generation along with the change in climatic conditions.

Because of the growth in the population, a large number of trees are cut for fuel, and to reclaim land for agricultural cultivation. In the case of Tibet, too, the Chinese have now destroyed its ancient trees in a similar way to shaving a man's hair off. This is not simply the destruction of trees but it also means harming what belongs to the Tibetans. Similarly, the continuing decline in forests in many parts of the world, including America, is adversely affecting the already changing global climate, thus upsetting the lives, not only of mankind, but also of all living beings. Similarly, the harmful effect on the atmosphere brought about by chemical emissions in industrialized countries is a very dangerous sign. Although this is a new thing for us Tibetans, the world is paying a lot of attention to this problem. It is the responsibility of us, who speak of the welfare of all sentient beings, to contribute towards this.

Since I too have a responsibility in this matter, (i.e. to work for the protection of the environment and to see that the present and future generations of mankind can make use of refreshing shade and fruits of trees), I bought these seeds of fruit-bearing" trees with part of my Nobel Peace Prize money to be distributed now, to people representing different regions (all the continents of the world are represented here) during this Kalachakra gathering. These seeds have been kept near the Kalachakra mandala for purification and blessings. Since these include seeds of apricot, walnut, papaya, guava, etc., suitable for planting under varying geographical conditions, experts in respective places 'should be consulted on their planting and care and, thus, you all should see my sincere aspiration is fulfilled.

Look Outside, see the trees
Watch the flowers in the breeze
Things won't be like this in a year or two
If polluting is all we do
Seize the night
Seize the day
Things won't always be this way
Thousands of people are dying
In the night you hear children crying
Let's stop the war
Our people are sore
The world can't help itself
Who cares about your wealth
Help me to help you
Show the world what you can do.

After gaining their support we will put up banners all around the city to see if people would like to help dig out all of the empty lots and help plant many healthy vegetables for them and people in need. We will then arrange a meeting for the whole city at a park or in a theater, most likely a big and public place. We will then introduce our idea to plant gardens in empty lots and help and hope to gain their agreement. After gaining their agreement, we will arrange certain days to go through all the streets and clean them all up and clean the empty lots. Next we will buy as many vegetables and foods to plant as we can get. Then we will plant them all and have a daily routine as to where we water the plants at least two times a day. We will continue this routine for a year and record our improvements and will ask the people how they feel about this organization that we have made. After many years that have passed, we will show the government our big impact and maybe they will take our advice and spread the gardens all over the…
