Dodos and Passenger Pigeons are both extinct birds that died by human hands. They are both birds that look similar, but they were two different type of birds. They lived in two different areas of the world and their habits were different. The reason why they became extinct are two different stories. There are differences between the Dodos and Passenger Pigeons such as are how they became extinct, in their body size, and where they lived.…
Imagine you’re a spotted owl mother who just hatched her 4 newborn owlet children. Obviously you’re thrilled to be starting this new chapter of your little owl life with a brand new family but you’re also shadowed with the fear of the young ones safety. The Great Horned and Barred Owl are stalking your new members for a late night snack and the opportunity to run you out of your home like the true savages they are. As their numbers in population increase, your own kind becomes more threatened. Once efforts to expand the Northern Spotted Owls habitat are increased, shared space with the Barred Owl is further limited and protection of their young is improved, then their population will soon increase. That…
-Birds Eye became a vertical integrated producer because of the undeveloped infrastructure of the market. In the 50’s and 60’s the frozen food market was in their infant stage from raw materials suppliers, to distributors, and retail chains. Since Birds Eye had the resources and capabilities they invested in harvesting equipment for raw material supplies, financed purchasing of refrigerators to help distributors and retail chains. With Birds Eye using all their resources and capabilities it allowed them to control and manage their entire supply chain.…
The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America. The bald eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless. Bald eagles are found over most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. About half of the world's 70,000 bald eagles live in Alaska. Combined with British Columbia's population of about 20,000, the northwest coast of North America is by far their greatest stronghold for bald eagles. They flourish here in part because of the salmon. Dead…

A snowy owl will live out the entire course of its life in the open artic in most cases, while others will migrate out of the arctic tundra. They will hunt, eat, mate, reproduce, and die where they reside. The largest bird in the artic, by a weight of up to six pounds, the snowy owl stands roughly two feet tall (National Georaphic). The snowy owl is a fearless hunter and strong protector. The snowy owls are diurnal, hunting mainly during the day unlike most species of owls that tend to be nocturnal. They mainly live in isolated and remote regions of the greater north; this protects them from human interaction. Snowy owls are immensely protective over their home, hunting grounds, and offspring.…
Walter Cronkite, Anderson Cooper, and George Plimpton; three reporters who not only reported a story, but decided to live their story. In mid February 1968, Walter Cronkite embedded himself in Vietnam during the Vietnam War to cover the Tet Offensive. In 2012, Anderson Cooper embedded himself in Syria during the, still ongoing, Syrian Civil War to cover the atrocities of President Assad’s regime against his own people. In 1963, George Plimpton embedded himself with the National Football League’s Detroit Lions to cover the life of a professional quarterback. Plimpton’s adventure may be less dangerous, but he’s still a journalist with an interesting story to tell. All journalists will run into strange and interesting stories in their career, however, journalists must be ready for any possibility. Like Dan Rather once said "When the going gets weird, anchor men punt." In Plimpton’s case, this was almost a literal possibility. Throughout “Paper Lion”, Plimpton makes it clear that despite personal risks and lengthy processes, he is dedicated to getting the real story, or in this case, the true athlete’s experience. Paper Lion is based off Plimpton’s experiences with the Detroit Lions as a third string quarterback during training camp. Even in the opening, George is confused for an Episcopalian minister when he arrives at the training camp. George doesn’t quite fit the image of an NFL quarterback. This is based solely on George’s muscular build, not his…
Two men that decide they want to take people’s lives into their own hands, can change the way American citizens live their everyday lives. This exact situation happened over a twenty-three day period, when John Muhammad and John Malvo went on a shooting spree in Washington D.C. John Allen Muhammad, a forty-one year old veteran expert marksman of the Persian Gulf War, was the main culprit of the crime. He was accompanied by John Lee Malvo, a seventeen year old Jamaican citizen. These two men killed ten people and wounded three others.…
Eagle Two Eyes Sheltered himself the best he could for the night within a hilly out crop, covered with branches and a buffalo skin. He didn't attempt to make a fire, but this decision had more to do with shame than survival.…
I don’t recall if Gutman said it in the movie about the Falcon being coated by lacquer to obfuscate that it’s really made of gold and jewels. I think it was implied that nothing is what they really seem to be. This is what I believe Dashiell Hammett was trying to communicate through his novel, ‘The Maltese Falcon.’ In this paper I will write about why I believe what is Hammett trying to convey through his cast of characters. These characters are unlike the image and stereotype cast upon their roles.…
The first project that I chose was the NASA Crane engineering challenge. The purpose of this project was to attempt to create a crane from materials provided, but lift the most weight. We also took ratings on how efficient the design was, the look of the design, and the strength of the design. We first looked at the need of the project. NASA is wanting to, in the future, bring cranes to the moon to extract different materials. The problem would be getting it there. They need a crane that will be capable of lifting very heavy amounts, but at the same time not take that many materials so it can be easier transported. The first thing me and my partner Matthew did was brainstormed ideas about what the design could be. We made a few…
Prussia was once a massive empire, it had a strong military, many different ethnic groups, and a bunch of different leaders, that made the empire better. I will talk about some of the different leaders of Prussia. I will also talk about some of the things that made the military so strong and feared. I will also talk about what happened when Germany and Prussia finally became one. Next I will talk about all of the problems that this new empire had because of religious, and cultural tensions.…

He enjoys showing and teaching beginners the way he breeds and flies his birds. He always reminds people that his way is not the only way, but that’s how he does it. He never tells anyone what they should do with their birds. He tells them, instead, what he would do, and he encourages them to make their own decisions at the end of the day. James also has a talent for simplifying pigeon genetics to anyone with any background knowledge and makes anyone understand how to reproduce certain colors. He also enjoys some deep conversations with veteran fliers about performance and conversations with scientists about color genetics. Over the years, I have witnessed fanciers of all ages and backgrounds really appreciate listening to his amassed wealth of knowledge and experience. When James speaks, everyone listens. Without a doubt, some pigeon breeders like James Turner are exceptionally knowledgeable about what they are doing in their backyard, but the best thing about guys like James is that they simply don’t mind sharing all of their experience with the public, which in turn puzzles some people. It is not unusual to meet some folks in the hobby saying: “These veterans don’t want to tell us everything because they don’t want us to beat them with their own birds; there must be something…
Hunting is a common activity all around the world, and if performed properly, can have many benefits to us and the rest of the planet. The art of hunting has been around since the beginning of time. Living off of the land used to be a necessity across the world, until the mass production of food came along. In America, people do not usually need to hunt to survive. However, the population of animal species needs to be controlled. Too many of one type of animal can cause a drastic change to any ecosystem. Food supplies decline quickly, leaving many animals without food. Hunting can help keep the population of a group of animals at a good number, making the lives of the other species easier. Hunters and fishermen are some of the most prominent demographic groups, and have an annual economic contribution of $70 billion (Eaton). Taxes from this also benefit the habitat by funding wildlife control (Gibbons). Hunting contains many positive effects on the world and the things living in it. Some people have negative views on this activity, but the amount of positive affects it has on society overbears the negative ones.…
