Cleopatra Silvia
I was going in an entirely different direction on my final essay. I just recently lost a dear friend; she was like a second mother to me. When reading the instructions for this paper, I noticed that it asked us to write about a person, place or thing that has special meaning to me and it all made perfect sense. I do home healthcare and for the past five years, Ms. Silvia was a client of mine. I remember the first day we met, I walked in and found a heavy set lady with smooth coco skin and a hair bonnet on her head sitting on the edge of a beautifully unique low to the ground black leather bed. One leg was on the floor, and the other rested on the bed. That’s when I noticed the amputated leg. She yelled out “come on in, what are you standing there for, what’s your name?” I answered …show more content…

Bob did what any loving son would have done, he dropped everything and came back home to Memphis to take care of his mother. Silvia was young, and had hopes of walking on her prosthetic leg and getting her life back on track. We worked towards that goal but most days she just didn’t feel up to it, what she really wanted was her real leg. It was hard for her to move around on that fake leg, not only was she in the fight of her life battling diabetes at its worst she also suffered from heart failure. Her heart was so bad that each time she took a step forward it sucked ever bit of wind that she had right out of her. She gave up. Silvia had a boyfriend, well that’s what she called him, I call him a user but that’s another story. I remember her dreams of walking down the aisle with him and making him her husband. His name was Wayne, and oh how she loved this man. Silvia didn’t realize it, but Wayne sucked the air out of her far more than

“Nine years ago I had a little brother who couldn’t walk”. I could see people’s faces get more serious. “He was a very happy kid who was determined. I was a little embarrassed to have him around me because I had to carry him everyday in a little cart. We would go out to the swamp near our house and I would try to teach him to walk. Finally, on his sixth birthday, we showed off our work to our parents. I couldn’t have been more proud and happy at the same time.” I started to tear up just a bit. “Time went by and I had this goal for him to be able to do all sorts of activities in a year. He sadly wasn’t able to do so but towards the final weeks before our deadline, I started to really push him. One day, it was raining and as we were running back to the house, I sped up. I was just trying to make him keep up with me. After a while I couldn’t see him. I went back the route I came and saw him lying their”. The class leaned in as I was about to say my last words with tears flooding my eyes. “He was…

I told my mother that I was going to the post office hoping to have a letter from my father. My mom said “Miranda, I heard that things should get better soon and this will be all over with, please be quick and be safe, it will all be over soon.” That gave me some hope. I left my skis in the house, knowing what I was going up against. I stepped outside into the blizzard, expecting the worst and not returning home. When I finally got to the post office, I realized that it was closed. Feeling hopeless, I was ready to give up and let the elements take me. But suddenly a flyer blew by me. I snatched the flyer and it said there is a food drive going on at the town hall. I managed to get there; I looked up, strained of all energy. The mayor explained how he was proud of me because I was getting food for my family and thinking of everyone else before myself. Being so exhausted, I looked up at the sky; a patch of blue peeked out at me. I jump up in excitement, an energy rush running through my body. I jump up and down, knowing that things are only going to get better from here knowing that my little brother Johnny and the rest of the family have a chance to survive. The mayor asks what all the excitement was about; I said “look up; there is hope in the air!” He looked up with the rest of the people at city hall in awe, looking hopeful. I had received a ride home to inform my family on the news. Once I told my mother, she cried tears of joy, knowing that everything should be over soon. Johnny screamed in joy, knowing that we all made it. Life will only get better now. This will soon be the life as we knew…

That is why today I hold a strong and loving relationship with my family and friends, because when the time comes God is calling one of them home, and that you know, they know, and God knows that you both had a fun ride without any…
