Causes by human involvement A – “… humans are changing the climate in ways that threaten our societies and the ecosystems…” B – “The principle reason for the mounting thermometer is a century and a half of industrialization. 1. Overall, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by 31% since 1750, i.e. since the Industrial Revolution.

C – “Humans have increased significantly the numbers of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere…” 2. The increase of CO2 in the atmosphere thickens the 'greenhouse blanket', with the result that too much heat is trapped into the Earth's atmosphere.

D – “…human activities are responsible for the rise in temperatures that has increased…” E – “…earth is changing rapidly probably because of greenhouse gases…”
II. Effects Caused A – “…changes in Arctic sea ice, atmospheric moisture, saltiness of parts of the Atlantic Ocean, and temperature changes in the Antarctic…” B – “…burning of coal, oil, natural gas, forests, and temperatures have increased over the same period.” C – “…increases in temperature and greenhouse gas concentrations are driving a multitude of related and interacting changes in the earth system…” D – “…Numerous plants and animal species are already weakened by pollution and loss of habitat is not expected to survive the next 100 years.” 1. As seawater reaches farther inland, it can cause destructive erosion, flooding of wetlands, contamination of aquifers and agricultural soils, and lost habitat for fish, birds, and plants.

E – “The medieval warm period is not comparable to today’s warming.”
