Christian Psychiatry strives to be practical, focusing on useful ways of recognizing psychological problems, as well as understanding the role physical problems can play in affecting a person’s mental function as well.7 In Christian Psychiatry the supernatural is felt to make a definite difference, whereas in some secular schools it is generally ignored. Prayer, Bible study, and the power of the Holy Spirit within an individual are seen as resources that can be applied frequently to effectively assist the individual in obtaining a more productive and health life. Although the Christian counselor certainly holds the Scriptures to be valid and wholly truthful, he does not treat proven scientific truths as invalid. Thus, Christian Psychiatry is unique for several reasons and it exists as a valuable philosophy for helping individuals suffering from emotional and mental disorders.
