Participants
Respondents included youth and young adults up to 25 years old and their identified primary care givers accompanying them to their appointments, hereafter referred to as “parents.” Prior to their clinic visit, parents were asked to complete the BOAT survey in the waiting room and to give it to the treating physician at the start of the visit.
Data Collection
Responses to an experimental item list regarding medication usage were collected as part of routine clinical care at a specialized psychiatry practice co-located in a developmental-behavioral pediatric clinic, serving a large population of children with ASD / DD between June 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. The Clinical Global Impressions scale (CGI) was conducted …show more content…
CGI-S scores range from normal/not at all (1) to among the most extremely ill patients (7) while CGI-I scores range from very much improved since the initiation of treatment (1) to very much worse since the initiation of treatment (7). The CGI has been widely used in a number of FDA-regulated trials involving youth with autism 11, …show more content…
CATPCA is well suited for Likert-scale responses and does not require an assumption of multivariate normality13. We undertook an iterative process, trialing several different CATPCA solutions, and determining the optimal number of components by examining the inflection points of scree plots, eigenvalues, and the overall variance accounted for (VAF). Only items that significantly contributed to the overall factor structure were retained. A Varimax (orthogonal) rotation was performed to identify items with minimal or no co-loading across components. Items with factor loadings greater than ± 0.40 were retained for subsequent analysis. After a suitable solution was identified, subscales were judged for interpretability and clinical
