Clinical Informatic Essay
The purpose of this discussion is about what nursing informatics vs clinical informatics. Two ways that I use clinical informatics at university hospital are the Alaris pumps and computerized library for patient education material. Two ways that nurse managers can use data to improve patient care would be HCAPS and surveys on how well we do to prevent urinary tract infections. President Bush made the mandate in 2014 to help improve quality care to low income patients. Clinical Informatics is a broader scope of nursing that collects date and uses the information to provide better patient care. Clinical informatics uses algorithms from a large set of data to help make biased data patterns. It is then used to help predicted different outcomes (Aston, 2014).
An example of clinical informatics would be the Alaris pumps. It helps reduce medication errors by having preprogrammed doses of medications and how fast they need to run based on the dosage and medication. This has improved patient care by providing safety for the patient by making sure that the patient is getting the correct dose and at the correct rate. Another way clinical informatics is helpful is computerized patient education. It helps improve the way we teach. It has the latest information to educate the patient about their condition. Nurse Managers can use data to improve patient care are HCAPs. They come out monthly and they tell us how patients score the unit from controlling pain, how clean the rooms are and how fast we answer call lights to help them get to the bathroom. Each has a section and we can review to see how we need to improve or if we are on track. Another is a score we get from the hospital NDNQI. When patients have Foleys, they track if they get an infection from the Foley. They also keep track of how many days the Foley has been it. We get the results quarterly from the hospital. We did bad one quarter and we had an in-service about how to clean catheters

He wanted social security reform and better health care for those in poverty (Azari, 2014). President Bush mandated the electronic health records to help improve the health care system, reduce cost and spending. It also helps secure privacy and to improve communication. It also helps gather data to help improve patient outcomes (Huber, 2014).
