Brief description of the programme/project/Initiative :
Clinical Legal Education needs to be aimed at bridging the disconnect between the Constitutional promise of a dignified life to every citizen and the reality of undignified human existence of majority of the population, especially in rural India. The clinical programmes would work to secure the objectives of good governance and citizen participation, in pursuance of the larger social justice mission. The clinical programmes would work with communities, in collaboration with civil society organzations, to support their effective participation in local governance.
Why should we initiate the programme?
1. To address the disconnect between promises of law and the grassroots reality.
2. To develop and strengthen clinical legal education in the University.
3. To establish a way of effective engagement between the university and communities/society.
4. To discharge the social obligations of the academic institution.
Objective : This Clinical Programme is an initiative and experiment with clinical legal education with the intended objective to address the problems of governance and ethical deficit. Also to address the disconnect between promises of law and policies and their grassroots reality to establish good governance and strengthen democracy and citizen participation.
Target group : Rural Communities, law students, NGOs, Govt Bodies, Policy makers.
Factors that can make the programme/project innovative.
1. Design to address the problems of governance and ethical deficit.
2. This programme should addresses the disconnect between promises of law and policies and their grassroots reality.
3. The collaboration with civil society organizations to support their effective participation.
4. This model can work as an example for other academic institutions.
5. This programme may offer Summer Internships to
