Clinique was founded in 1968 under the Estee Lauder brand. Clinique was introduced as the world’s first allergy tested and 100% fragrance free line in the beauty industry. At the time, the idea that women could change the look of the skin they were born with was brand new and unheard of. Dermatologist developed a way to show women this is not true, when they developed skin care products and make up to address all types of skin concerns and conditions. Clinique prides itself on selling customized products for the individual, rather than selling universal products for anyone to use. Clinique’s salespeople are specially trained to recognize and understand all skin types and skin problem. They are also trained to recommend the correct Clinique products that suit them the best, all while giving the customer a one on one experience. Evelyn Lauder, the daughter-in-law of Estee lauder developed the Clinique brand and product line after reading an article in Vogue magazine entitled “Great skin can be created” in 1967. The article was on the importance of a great skin care routine. After reading the article Evelyn who worked for her famous Mother-in-law, was very intrigued and brought it to Estee Lauder’s attention. Soon after, with the help of the articles authors, beauty editor Carol Phillips and Dermatologist Norman Orentreich, Evelyn Lauder and her team developed the Clinique brand.
