Physical and Location Description

Clinton County is located in the geographic center of Michigan just 10 miles north of Lansing, the state capital. The County is named after a former Governor of New York, De Witt Clinton, and DeWitt is another city in Clinton County. Clinton County has a total area of 575 square miles, of which 572 square miles is land and 3 square miles is water. The southern portion of the county includes the cities of DeWitt, parts of Lansing, Grand Ledge and East Lansing along with the Charter Townships of Bath, DeWitt and Watertown. Other communities include Elsie, Maple Rapids, and Hubbardston to the north, Westphalia and Eagle to the west and Ovid to the east. Clinton County is well known for its peppermint and

Johns is home to the only certified business park in Clinton County. The city's business park is certified though the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The business park has held this certification for many years. The business park boasts a variety of businesses including an automotive parts manufacturer, two large warehouse distribution centers, an information technology, business, a new State of Michigan Department of Human Services building, and a local credit union. The city actively promotes the business park to prospective employers. In 1998, the city created a Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA). The LDFA was created primarily to promote economic growth in the city. The board continues to advance this goal with the purchase of additional land for future growth of the city’s business park and various infrastructure updates planned. Johns has Clinton County’s only hospital, Sparrow Clinton Hospital, which has been continually updating its equipment and staff to ensure the continued provision of convenient, quality, local healthcare services utilizing the latest technologies available to the community. A roughly 6 million dollar expansion was recently completed to enhance the emergency room services and allow for future expansion. St. Johns senior citizens are well served by the nationally rated Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, which provides quality care for the area’s population. On the campus of Hazel I. Findlay is also an assisted living center complex named Clinton Commons. This provides many different residential and care options depending on level of need.
