In an article titled “Closing the health-wealth gap” Kristen Wein says, “People living at the low end of the socioeconomic spectrum may be most affected by health inequalities, but poorer health doesn't exist only among the poor.” In this, the author is acknowledging that both the wealthy and the not-so-wealthy can get sick, however it is the not-so-wealthy people who are impacted more. This does not mean that the people of less money are the ones who get the sickest and most ill. Both kinds of people, the ones with money and the ones without, can get the same type of illness/sickness. The only difference would be the ways in which they go about trying to make themselves better. When the wealthy get sick, they can afford the best doctors and healthcare to help them get better. As opposed to the other people who settle for a mediocre doctor with mediocre care. The have-nots are impacted greater because while some may not be able to get the type of treatments that they need at all, the quality of the rest of their service may not be as good as the quality of the wealthy. The health care system is where the people are given services as it relates to health and the legal system is where the people process and interpret the law. The health care system generally takes care of people when they get sick but also attempts to keep the healthy to prevent sickness. Given that this system provides for the ill, it helps to maintain the people’s health to help them live long and full lives. The legal system follows a procedure for the specific cause, whether it is to prove someone innocent or prove someone guilty of breaking the law or acting on their rights, and then they enforce it. This system is very important in American society because it, in a way, holds it the people together, for the most part, in being civil. Given that the legal system enforces the law, it makes sure that everyone is entitled to his or her rights and that the people who take that away from others are dealt with accordingly. Laws are like rules and they can be broken just the same, however there are repercussions that this system sets into place.
