In Korea, the clothing attires are very important, as they are part of the ceremony. The clothing for their wedding ceremony is very bright in colour usually in red or green. The norigae, which is the knot on the top, is called the Maedeup and Wonsam. The wonsam has wide sleeves with three or four different colors on the sleeves, usually red, blue, yellow, and/or green. The hanbok, which is made by white cotton, silk or scratchy coarse fabric, called hemp are widely used for Korean wedding is called the Hollyebok. The wedding gown for brides is called the Hwarot.
On the wedding day, the bride will wear a green chima, a yellow joegori, which is a short jacket with long sleeves, accessorize with two long ribbons that are tied to form the otgoreum. Boat shaped shoes made of silk is worn with white cotton socks.
A chima, a full-length, high-waisted, wrap-around skirt, a Boat-shaped womens shoes, made of silk, a white sash with significant symbols of flowers. The bride has red circles on the forehead and on both which are called yonji and gonji. This signifies the power to drive away evil spirits and give purity and lot of love to the bride.
The Korean bride’s hair is prepared using a jokduri which also means a special head ornament and is like a cap with jade and other designs on it.
Besides that, the groom’s attire is called the samogwande, a long robe-like outfit with a belt worn on top, which highly resembles the clothes that the lowest ranking court officials wore during the Chosun period. A jacket (chigori) and trousers (paji) and an overcoat (turumagi) are worn. The jacket has loose sleeves; the trousers are roomy and tied with straps at the ankles. A vest may be worn over the shirt. A black hat (moja) could be worn. The groom wears a hat that is called the samo. The cap is a tall hat with wings on the side.
