According to “Tailoring,” by the 19th and 20th centuries, these new styles were replaced with clothing that became more practical.
Tight clothing was still very popular, but people loss crave for flashy and eccentric clothing. The people were now starting to order private tailor to fit their clothes. However, not everyone could afford this privileged service. Home made clothing became the new popular thing to do.By the end of the 19th century, men’s garments changed dramatically, due to the Civil War. More soldiers were needed, therefore more uniforms. As a result, factories started to kick in to make these uniforms quicker and cheaper. From this, standard sizes were created from the measurements taken from soldiers, and according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, this became the “first commercial sizing scales for
men.” However, not until the 1920s women’s clothing were still made at home. Since women were now working, they didn't have time to stay at home and get their clothes done by a tailor. Since tailoring was no longer really used women would have to wear clothing that never really fitted them correctly. Just like the National Institute of Standards and Technology expresses, the solution to this problem came in 1937, when the U.S. Department of Agriculture made a standardized sizing system. As time came, fashions started developing. Nowadays, almost anyone can get clothing the size they desire. Fashions are constantly changing; from wearing baggy clothes as a style to wearing clothing who doesn't always fit right. The fashion industry is constantly changing and developing in ways we don't expect them to.
