Mackerel most often dwell at the surface of the water, where oxygen content is higher (Jordan and Evermann, 1896-1900, p. 866). They have a high oxygen demand for their vital processes and must keep swimming constantly, to bring sufficient flow of water to their gill filaments, or else they die (Jordan and Evermann, 1896-1900, p. 866). Whiting can be found in mud and gravel beds where they feed on animals like crab, shrimp, mollusks, and other bottom feeders (ARKive). Since they live at lower depths than Mackerel, their oxygen requirements are less. A Flounder’s habitat is at a deeper level than the other two fish species.…

The Leafy Sea Dragon is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, which includes the seahorses. The name comes from the long leaf-like growths on its body. Leafy sea dragons don't live on tropical reefs, but in the cooler rocky reefs off the southern coast of Australia. Despite their name, seadragons don’t have any teeth. They suck their food with their long mouths, just like seahorse. Their diet consists of Small invertebrates, including shrimps and other zooplankton. Sea dragons' mouths work like straws. They have small, transparent dorsal and pectoral fins that propel and steer them through the water, but they just tumble and drift in the current like seaweed.…

    The Orangespotted Sunfish

Orangespotted Sunfish are lotic fish found primarily in rivers and reservoirs and are tolerant of turbid water. The muddy, slow moving water found in the Big Sioux River and the Cheyenne River is a common place to find these fish. They range throughout the Great Lakes, to Texas, and to Ohio. Orangespotted Sunfish are the sunfish most adapted to pollution and turbid waters of low-quality water, which is why they can expand their range widely while other sunfishes cannot as easily. They have expanded farther eastward since 1990 and across the entire state of Ohio. They obviously have a high enough survival rate to expand that far in that short of time. Also, the rivers provide a large connection for the sunfish to flourish. Orangespotted Sunfish are more abundant in pools than any other habitat like runs or riffles and prefer places where refuge is nearby. They will reside in pools, then scatter in fallen logs and in holes between rocks to take…
