Notes for the student: This is the first of two courseworks which are designed to give you practical experience in composing elementary Java programs. These courseworks are written under the assumption that the person taking this course is an absolute beginner. If you are not a beginner and have some programming experience already, you will find them relatively easy. If you are a beginner, you may find them challenging. But there is a wealth of sources of help available on the internet and if you pursue your work with patience and determination all of the concepts presented here will slowly begin to make sense. The most important advice you can be given is this:
(1) Start early! Don’t wait.
