Coalition Meeting Reflection
Today, I went with Steven Campos to a coalition meeting at Christ Hospital. This was my first coalition meeting besides the YCP (Youth Crime Prevention) coalition meeting. This coalition meeting was extremely educational and useful. During this meeting, I have learned about the Restorative Justice (RJ) System. According to Steven Campos presentation, RJ offers victims a highly participatory process by focusing on the victim’s needs such as letting them tell their story by being heard in the community, participating in discussions about how to resolve their problem and letting the victim’s receive information about the circumstances of the crime.

    The assessment of the neighborhood was completed individually on separate occasions and as a group on our way to a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting. As a group our windshield survey was captured while driving from Northeastern Hospital, west on Allegheny Avenue, and south on Kensington Avenue. The time of the window survey was approximately 5:45 on a warm Tuesday evening. We decided to drive along the smaller side streets after the meeting, in order to get a different view of the community.     Treatment programs are beneficial for altering behavior. They receive special treatments/programs to strengthen their ability to become a better person such as Narrative Therapy, and Restorative Justice. Narrative therapy within the rehabilitative system is a way to identify patients problems, in order to reduce clinically relevant psychological symptoms among the youth.
