For Homer there are not a lot of opportunities. Homer’s father wants Homer to follow his footsteps and work at the mine while Homer does not want to do that. Homer is expected to work at the mine and has a guaranteed job at the mine because of his father but would rather finish school. Homer gets inspired to learn how to build rockets when the first artificial satellite called Sputnuk goes into outer space. Because of this Homer wants to build a rocket.
