Coast Guard's Port Security Report
The Coast Guard’s Port Security Unit 313 turned over authority of the Coast Guard’s mission to the incoming unit, the Port Security Unit 307, June 10 at the Northeast Gate on U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Among the distinguished guests present was Rear Adm. Peter Clarke, Joint Task Force Guantanamo Commander.
Clarke said Coast Guard Commander James Hotchkiss, previous commanding officer for Maritime Security Detachment JTF GTMO and his team, have been a vital part of the JTF mission, and keeping NSGB safe.

“My primary job was running the DV program,” Galland said. “We ran the distinguished visitors across the Bay from Leeward Ferry, and wherever they needed to go via water. One of the things we made sure we did is give face-time to the Coast Guard with these dignitaries, so whenever they ask ‘Hey, what’s the Coast Guard doing here?’ we got to tell them.”
Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class, Jeffrey Pires, a lead tactical coxswain assigned to PSU 307, has deployed to JTF GTMO two other times in the past; he is on his third tour to JTF GTMO he said.
“There’s always something new,” Pires said. “There’s always new opportunities down here for us. The Coast Guard has had a great footprint down here in the last 14 years, and I’m proud to have been part of the last two times the unit has been down here.” Commander Eric Bernstein, Commanding Officer of the Maritime Security Detachment JTF GTMO, hopes to continue carrying out the JTF mission with the foundation of hard work and success that PSU 313 left, he
