Coca Cola: Another Advertising Hit
1. Consider Coca-Cola’s advertising throughout its history. Identify as many commonalities as possible for its various ads and campaigns.
A common theme that I see in Coca-Cola’s slogans is happiness. The slogan in 1923 was “Enjoy life.” In more recent years, other slogans used depicting happiness includes “Life tastes good” and also “Open happiness”. I believe that Coca-Cola stands for wholesome, quality, and happiness. It is a company that has been around and thriving for quite a long time. Breaking Through the Clutter: The “It’s Mine” ad played during the Super Bowl. I know a lot of people who watch the Super Bowl not because they enjoy football, but because the advertisements are so entertaining.
Merging Advertising and Entertainment: By Coca-Cola using famous cartoon characters, like Stewie and Charlie Brown they were able to merge advertising and entertainment.
Message Strategy: I think the overall message of this advertisement is that good always wins over evil. At the end of the ad, Charlie Brown got the Coke after Stewie and another character were fighting over it. This shows that Coke is good.
Message Execution: I believe that the execution style used in this advertisement was a combination of fantasy and personality symbol.
3. Discuss issues of selecting advertising media for the “It’s Mine” ad. How might this process differ from that of other Coca-Cola campaigns? From other campaigns for other companies?
I think Coca-Cola might the right decision when selecting the media for the “It’s Mine” ad. Because the ad was played during the Super Bowl on television, there was a high cost initially, but when
