Although crack and cocaine have similarities, they also have three big differences. First, crack and cocaine are made from the coca plant, they are different in form. Crack has the form of flakes and cocaine is found in the form of powder, so it can be dissolved. Also, crack and cocaine both contain cocaine, but in many sizes, crack contains as much as 90% pure cocaine but cocaine contains from 15-20% pure cocaine. Another big difference is how they enter the body. Crack is smoked in a pipe or cigarette. It enters the body by the lungs into the bloodstream. Cocaine is inhaled as a powder or is injected if melted. It is snorted through the nose into the bloodstream or if it is injected it goes straight to the bloodstream.…

The American dream, that is to achieve success financially, has become an engraved necessity in today’s society. From the very beginning of our life, we are taught to go to excel in our academics, find a well paying job, purchase the little white house with the picket fence, and start our own family. However, what happens if you grow up in a lifestyle where you're unable to achieve these goals? Today, many grow up in less fortunate, negligent communities and families. As a result, ambition and hope of the American dream is lost and many find themselves lost in the drug world. As a consequence, our society at whole has responded to this drug dependency possessing; addiction, disease, and higher crime than ever before. Acknowledging this growing problem, our government has created and put billions of dollars into The War on Drugs policy. However, despite the great deal of efforts and money spent to put drug users and sellers to a halt , America still cannot shake the drug crisis. In this paper, I will discuss why the Drug War policy is doomed for constant cycle of failure, why it’s failing, and what must be done to successfully to free our society from possible gloom.…
A large portion of FARC’s profits now come from drug trafficking; however, they weren’t major drug traffickers when Plan Colombia was first implemented. Peter Dale Scott, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and author of several books on this topic, noted that the Colombian government estimated in 2001 that paramilitary groups controlled 40% of the cocaine exports; whereas the FARC controlled only 2.5%. The FARC had been more involved in the “taxing” of the drug trade, but they have since significantly increased their role in production by forcing farmers to grow cocaine. Economics and geopolitics are the clear reasons why the U.S. government implemented such a flawed drug policy which targets the FARC while turning a blind eye to the attacks committed by right-wing paramilitary groups.…
Colombia's government and the rebel group FARC reached an agreement May 17, 2014 on ending the illegal drug trade. The deal called for FARC to cooperate with the government in convincing farmers to grow crops other than coca, which is used to make cocaine. The announcement was made Friday in Havana where the two sides have been negotiating an end to a 50-year-old insurgency. Colombia was the world's leading producer of cocaine until Peru recently overtook it in cultivation of coca. The cocaine industry has been the major source of funds for the Marxist rebel group and a cause of crime and instability in the South American country. With the agreement on ending the drug trade, the two sides have resolved three of the six points on their agenda. Previously FARC and the government had reached deals on agrarian reform and political participation.…
