I believe that everyone deserves the chance to love and care for a pet in some way. My family adopted our very first pet, a five-year old half golden retriever and half Australian Sheppard dog named Chance. As long as I can remember my brother, sisters and I have always wanted a pet. I can remember every moment of it like it was the other day; the day after Christmas my parents surprised us all with a dog they had saved from being put to sleep.
The moment Chance walked into our lives everything changed. Right away Chance became very protective of the whole family, wherever we went he would follow or watch us. In the summer, late nights; all of my siblings would hangout out with our friends. When it was time for us to go home my parents would let Chance out and he would come running out towards us letting us know it was time to go home. He was not like an ordinary dog, there was something about the way he looked at you that made us feel like he truly appreciated his new family. Having pets around the house is great therapy in a way and tends to brighten your day even at your darkest hours. Many animals sense different human emotions and they know when you are happy, sad or in pain etc. Whenever I was sad and just feeling down about a certain situation Chance would always come towards me and just by a simple look bring up my spirits. Adopting a dog and giving them a new home for the better, they treat you better and cherish every moment with you until the end. I can truly say my pet changed my life in so many ways. I never would have thought I could love an animal so much. Chance entered our lives not as a puppy, but still very young. Years kept on passing by and I did not realize how old he was getting. I had owned him since I was in first grade and now, then going into my junior year in high school he seemed to not be as active and energetic as he used to be. Being older, he would mainly hangout around
