Nutritional well-being plays an essential role in the overall health, independence, and quality of life of older persons as well as disabled persons. This nation has a responsibility to at risk populations such as the elderly. Today, there are close to 6 million seniors in the United States facing the threat of hunger. Some of these citizens were raised during the Great Depression, they went on to protect our independence in the Second World War and won the cold war. America's older citizens have been called the greatest generation by many. It is morally wrong that the citizens that built this country should suffer starvation in this land of plenty, which they helped to form. Our country prides itself on taking care of other countries but tend to ignore the needs of its own citizens. We would much rather spend our money overseas to help a child in need than to reach out to our elderly or disabled neighbors and give them a hand.…

Any profession, such as the Human Services, that has the capacity to do so much good for an individual also has the same capacity to do them harm. In order to prevent such harm a code of ethics must be created and followed by everyone in that profession.…

As we move into the new millennium, there is an emphasis on the need for leadership and the complexities of developing effective moral leadership. In out postmodern society, chaos and corruption prevail. Organizations are created while others go out of business. Programs that are effective and necessary are eliminated, while profit-making programs that serve those who have the least need find a solid market share. From a realist perspective, it is argued that leaders cannot afford ethics in this world of increasing responsibilities, political and economic intimidation, and competitive interests. However, an alternative view would argue that leaders should follow the requirements of ethics. Further, ethical leadership leads to the development of quality human services, empowered consumers and community citizens, and committed employees.…

Any practitioner must consider the ethical implications of their services. Moral values and one’s own emotions can sometimes clash and cause human beings to act on impulses. This cannot be the case for someone who is a professional in the human services field. According to Clifford and Royce (2008, p. 17), ethical dilemmas need to be actively discussed and require careful consideration. Human services practitioners must discuss with their clients the importance of informed consent, confidentiality, and the limits of confidentiality before any other discussions can occur (Martin, 2007, p. 38). These are very important pieces of the ethical standards human service practitioners must follow. All information between a practitioner and client must be kept confidential unless the practitioner believes this information proves their client may be in danger of hurting someone else or his or her own self. The practitioner has to make an ethical decision regarding whether or not the limit of confidentiality has been reached. A practitioner cannot engage in any outside relationship with the client, either. This would be a serious violation for any involved in the human services…
