Code of Ethics Strength and Weaknesses
1. ACM CODE OF ETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
Code of Ethics Strength:Francis S1- Codes inspire the members of a profession to behave ethically.
S3- Codes educate the members of a profession about their professional obligations.
S4- Codes discipline members when they violate one or more of the code’s directives
S6- Codes inform the public about the nature and roles of the profession.
Code of Ethics Weaknesses: Sherwin
W2-Codes are not always helpful when two or more directives conflict
W5-Codes do not help us distinguish between micro-ethics issues and macro-ethics issues.
W7- Codes can be self-serving for the profession.
2. AUSTRALIAN COMPUTER SOCIETY CODE OF ETHICS
Code of Ethics Strength:Francis S1- Codes inspire the members of a profession to behave ethically. S2-Codes guide the members of a profession in ethical choices. S6- Codes inform the public about the nature and roles of the profession. S3 - Codes educate the members of a profession about their professional obligations. S7 - Codes enhance the profession in the eyes of the public Code of Ethics Weaknesses: Sherwin W4- Codes are ineffective (have no “teeth”) in disciplinary matters. W5-Codes do not help us distinguish between micro-ethics issues and macro-ethics issues.
