• Documentary theatre also explores the connection between truth and realism as well as the spectacle in theatre in a contemporary way.This form of theatre is heavily naturalistic and realistic and therefore it can relate to the audience in a way in which other forms of theatre may not.However ,due to it based on real life ,it's possible to come across slightly static to the audience so therefore needs to have ways of performing in an experimental contemporary way.Different ways that documentary theatre …show more content…
• In order to fully express the truth to an audience, the topic must be fully understood and this makes research very crucial in a documentary piece.Research can be taken in many ways such as Interviews, videos/footage ,transcripts, speeches, reports ,letters and even photographs to have vast knowledge of the topic making it able for the audience to understand it also.
• The topic we are basing our documentary piece on is the Syrian refugees ,in light of the refugee crisis and the ongoing war.Using this style of theatre allows us to express a true representation of the tragic events in a refugee perspective and the extent in which refugees had to go and the risks they had to take in order to survive and cope in such a risky and fearful situations with the unknown surrounding them and the feeling of desperation with no one to go to or any safe haven.We have had to carefully research this topic in many ways ,by watching and reading news reports ,watching informative videos as well as attending and recording a debate on the refugee crisis.Some of the resources show opinions and stories directly from refugees themselves which help us influence our characters and events to inform the audience from a true perspective.We are using extracts from the recorded debate in our devised piece to show real views from other people who aren't involved with the crisis as well as from the refugees
