change. We not only live for ourselves but for others and world around us. Fulfilling purpose does not even have to be a lifelong quest, we fulfill purpose every day. A simple smile could possibly saves someone’s life.
Dance is my passion and from a very young age, before even taking dance classes I knew I was going to be a professional dancer.
My life motto is “change the world one performance at a time.” In 30 years I may not be at the peak of my dancing career, realistically I might not even be dancing anymore. Although my true heart’s desire is to dance for a lifetime, retiring would not be the end of me. I would consider myself unsuccessful and practically a failure, if I lost sight of positively influencing others. As an artist I use dance to communicate. Whether I am performing or choreographing my goal is deeper than just a good show but rather, reaching a person in a way that words alone cannot. Even at my young age I see how my choreography has moved others. I expect nothing but more empowerment as I get older. More people should see what I have to offer. With my maturity should come new innovative ways to use dance. I hope to broaden the possibilities of dance. I want to explore how can dance be used in education, rehabilitation, and interpreting information. These are not set in stone. But rather parameters of where I want to go. I may end up researching the benefits of dance in all three areas; or maybe I only do one. Whatever I dedicated myself to, I must reach further than I can with my two
hands.
If I were to look back on my life at the age of 50 and realize I over looked multiple opportunities to interact with new people, I would be extremely disappointed. Communication is key general, whether it’s through art or speech. I am currently a Spanish minor for the simple fact that I believe being bi-lingual will put me in a position where I can interact with more people. A small goal I have for myself is to go a Spanish speaking country and teach dance. Not only will I be find ways to grow with-in a new culture but I will be able to impact students that may not speak English. Dance is universal. It brings people together. In 50 years I will have experienced people outside the U.S.
Whether I look back in 30 years, or 10 years my disappointment would be the same if I realize I lived my life without purpose. When you live in purpose, marriage, children, and/or successful career all come at the appropriate time. My life starts now, as college student. I am always thinking of how I can help others. People will forget the good dancer soon after they leave a show, however they will never forget a person who positively impacted their life.
