This was the first time a teacher of mine had given me a push to do better than I was doing. Unlike the teachers that I had had before at my private school, she seemed to know that I could do better than I was actually doing. She explained and offered to me suggestions to my writing errors that I had made. In that time, I had discovered that I was a weak writer, I had lacked basic writing skills that were expected out of freshmen high schoolers. I then found out that I was struggling because Mrs. Short wasn’t walking me through every step of my paper, she was doing this to prepare us students for college. That day was a huge turning point in my high school education. I was not longer having someone walk through every step of an assignment while holding my hand. I was no longer satisfied by doing the “best I can” because in that moment, I had learned that my work was not as good enough as I thought. I knew I needed to be better.
