College Admissions Essay: Emergency Room And Medicine

Doctors, those who wield science as a weapon against any ailment or injury all to preserve life by any means, physicians in a way, have the capacity to grant the families of the ill the same thing those families probably prayed to gods for. I have three cousins in medical school and one of their fathers’ discovered the Huntington Disease in 1993. Speaking of that uncle I recall a time, a few months back, a day that made me certain of what I wanted to pursue. That day consisted of being brought to the Emergency Room by my uncle while he was on call. That day I saw many gruesome things, one of those things was one that has remained imprinted in my mind till this day. There was a little girl about the age of seven, she had gotten into an accident and had terrible lacerations from a car accident. I waited outside of the room in which she was receiving surgical care. I waited for more than a few hours until I finally saw her get wheeled out of surgical care. She had bandages and blood on her leg but because of the doctor, a smile was on her face, despite being in an almost fatal crash. I was captivated with the fact that in under a few hours
I’m mentally preparing myself for the job knowing that if I fortify myself, I’d be able to withstand the psychological turmoil that is customary for medical students to endure. As long as I have my inclination and my strong motivation I don’t think anything will deter me from seeing my dream of practicing medicine become a reality.
Since being accepted into St. John’s University I’ve flourished and excelled much like I anticipated in the concluding months of high school.
