College Admissions Essay: How Artwork Changed My Life

Last year, I had a class where everyone had to write positive things about people on slips of paper that those people would later receive. Most of the slips I was given had words like “artistic” written on them. It’s the one thing people think of when they see me. I’m given art supplies for birthdays and Christmas, I used to be able to fill sketchbooks in just a month, and creating just now seems like something I’m supposed to be alive for, but I didn’t get serious about it until I was in middle school and didn’t want to make a career out of it until I was a freshmen in high school. Unfortunately, I’ve been going to a school that does not offer much or any art classes but on my own, I have been climbing my way to my dreams of becoming an animator, illustrator, or tattoo artist. Going to Perpich will benefit me well in this process and I’ve already taken art classes at the Art Academy, started my own webcomic, experimented with many different mediums, and have read books about improving art styles. The visual arts is essentially my passion and I will do anything to keep it that way.

After joining my school’s Student Leadership Crew, I grew and was taught how to work with different kinds of people in a team along with working by myself when absolutely needed. With working in a group, I’ve learned how to better my ideas, revise my work, become flexible with others, and hearing other people’s ideas is incredibly needed to have an open-mind. When it comes to school projects where I have the choice to work alone or with a partner, I will mostly choose to work alone because I know that that the effort I put into projects will affect the other person if I do not do well and I would rather not have any mistakes I make reflect in other people’s
