College Admissions Essay: My Pursuit Of Ambition
As a child growing up, I remember wishing to be a fireman or a police officer, and in speaking with other friends, dream was similar for them. These professions, whether because of the uniform or notoriety, seemed to appeal to every son or child at one point or another. Yet as time goes on, often ones interests change, life takes each person on unique individual paths that open or close doors that were never either given much attention or simply never seen as achievable. Countless people miss the opportunity in choosing a profession, perhaps never having a goal, ambition, or the desire to focus on a particular profession, wandering in life from one position to another, each never fulfilling their dream, or passion in life. I happen to be a firm believer that if one has a reason to do something and truly …show more content…
I have been in and out of the hospital my entire life, but this time was different. You see, hitting that tree while riding my dirt bike not only almost took my, but I felt it put myself at a crossroad in life; one door leading to the life path I was currently on, one with no objective, wandering aimlessly at such an early age, not succeeding in school and having the lack of a goal to aim for in my life; and the other door towards a profession where I now believed I could make a difference in life; perhaps saving a few along the way. This was my calling, and I knew with certainty at that point I wanted to become a physician. I now had that goal to strive for, an objective to achieve, and the motivation required to overcome anything in my path to becoming a physician. I became focused on my newly found passion and finished my senior year in highschool with the best report card that I have ever received. Now closing out my second year at Palm Beach State College, I enjoy a 3.81 GPA, and remain focused on improving, or at the least preserving that during my final

The article Finding Your Heart’s True Calling by Gary Selby tugged at my heartstrings a bit as it reiterated questions that I have asked myself over and over again. The piece assured me that I’m not the only person who is worried that my major may not support me, and solidified my belief that my occupation should be enjoyable to do and fulfil the need to do meaningful work. I have always known that I do not want to live my life wishing that I was doing something else. What was most surprising to me in the article was when the author described himself reflecting on his own journey by stating, “And yet when I look back, amazingly, I really can see the outline of a coherent plan” (7). I never had thought about that before.…

In the real world, people search for jobs that will give them personal satisfaction, along with a good paycheck. Unfortunately, we all are not lucky enough to get the jobs that we want, so we have to settle for what is available at the time. I mean, how many people really dreamed of being like Calvin, and working at McDonalds, or who really had aspirations of laboring at the local Shell station? This is not always the case, a lot of people actually decide what they want to be, then actually accomplish their career goals. Most people, when searching for a career, usually pick something that they would enjoy, rather than something that they hate to do, but pays well.…

Ever since I was younger, I’ve had a large imagination, filling up my days dreaming up endless scenarios of the future. Thinking of possible careers was never a problem, but choosing out of the many life paths I wanted was. I alternated between wedding planner, creating a notebook filled with torn out pages of poofy dresses and possible wedding locations; author, stuffing short stories and poems into a floral folder; and psychiatrist, researching the process to become a doctor. The thought that these may not be options for me never crossed my mind. I only knew I would do whatever I could to live out the future I saw in my mind.…

When Cayli, my daughter, started kindergarten I started talking to her about going to college and how it was the most important thing she could do for herself. In turn she would ask me what kind of degree did I get and I would look at her and tell her that I did not go to college and this is why I wanted her to so she would not have to live paycheck to paycheck like her father and I did. After awhile, I started to feel like a hypocrite every time I would insist she went to college and not going wasn't an option. I knew in that instance that I had to go back and get my own college degree.…

I had worked hard in school because of this desire to become a physician. But at a time I also became discouraged and worried about my future outlook. During my second semester of freshman year and going into sophomore year in college, I was still trying to figure out how to study properly and the troubles in physics and organic chemistry became a nightmare. On top of courses being difficult, I was also involved in a dance team, an active runner, and employed as an undergraduate peer advisor and TA, which became hard to balance. Sacrifices were made, which I came to realize is what a physician's job entails. I had never faced more of a…

Ambition is not so much the desire to achieve, but the action or method of getting to that desire, without the action it is merely a dream. When an individual speaks about ambition there is a straight idea of positivity embedded into it. Carol Anne Duffy’s education for leisure and Shakespeare’s Macbeth both have a very strong link to ambition and power, but they are by no means positive ambitions. In this essay I am going to analyse and compare the two piece of text.…

I believe in opportunity. The definition of opportunity is something that you want to do, have the chance to do, or the possibility·of achieving something. When I was younger, I lived in a heavily populated town: Laredo, Texas. At the time, I was an eighth grader trying to make my mom proud by getting good grades in my classes. Seeing my mom happy was the greatest feeling in the world. My father, on the other hand, started to disappear on us. I found out that my dad had a drug problem, and my mom was filing for a divorce. I did not want my mom getting a divorce, but I knew she would be happier. My parents splitting up killed me, but it was best for my mother and me. Thinking about the divorce now, it was probably the best thing that has ever happened to me, because it offered me one thing: opportunity.…
