College Admissions Essay: The Things That Make A Smile
The things that make me smile are my friends, my family, different types of music, sports, reading books, and just being me. Fun group projects make me smile. The sports that I like to play are volleyball and tennis and I also like to dance and they make me excited to do. I am very competitive but I don’t let it get in the way of having fun.
The ideas and things that ignite my mind are sometimes ordinary things we do in class or something funny that happened at lunch. For example, I like to write poems and if something that happens in class like an argument and it reminds me of something that happened to me then I would write about it to express my feelings. Sometimes looking out the window on the bus just sparks my imagination. You can see a lot of things just by looking out the window and if you look really closely you could see something really beautiful. Observing the way I do help me a lot and help me learn about building or creating something new and then getting to show it off to people for them to say that it is amazing that you built that. Science is my second favorite subject because of the hand on learning like the labs that we get to do. Learning for me is fun and what better way to learn than to learn with friends. In my 6th-grade science class, my friend and I built a bottle rocket. It was something new for me and her because we were both new and didn’t know each other. I like to observe people because that’s how I learn my surroundings by the way people act but in this situation it was about how my partner works with other people. In the end, we got our project done shared a few laughs and became friends. The thing I think that I enjoy the most about working with
groups is working with other people because I get to have new friends and a new perspective on how to work to make progress. I really like working with people I know but sometimes when I know that person I usually know their strengths and weaknesses and if you are a weak worker I wouldn’t want you in my group.
The SECME activities that I find fun that involves science, math and engineering is programming robots and cars. I also like the Hour of Code where we get to code and play our own games to beat challenges which I think is really cool.
Projects that I am interested in are projects in the field of robotics, programming, and engineering. Last year I took a class called Concepts of Engineering. We focused on building bridges and mouse trap cars and bottle rockets trying to get a better understanding of the different engineering jobs
This year I am in Engineering Design and Presentation. In this class we aren’t just designing robots and bridges but we are also fixing and driving race cars for the Ten 80 Racing Challenge.
I like engineering because there are a lot of things that engineers do that makes the world a better place.
If anything I would want to become a famous engineer and leave my mark on the world by doing something that can help everyone big or small it doesn’t matter. My favorite type of engineer is an Aerospace Engineer because they seem to do really cool things like working with NASA. My uncle is an aerospace engineer and he gets to work with NASA and gets to design missiles and air crafts and things like that which I think is pretty cool. If I can’t get a job as a lawyer I will definitely go back to college and get a degree in engineering because I have a
passion for it. I like to design things and I think that is I was given the chance I could become someone that people can look up too. That’s why I have the passion for being an
engineer.
I show my leadership in school by helping my friends out when they need help. For example if I have finished my work and someone needs help, I would go over and help them. Being a leader means to me that no one under any circumstance can influence you to be anything that you are not. When I was younger I use to like helping out at church in the little kids classes. I don’t help out any more one because we moved and two, I don’t have that much time anymore because moving on in grade levels everything gets harder and there is a lot to do with homework on the weekend and there is a lot of studying you have to do because this is your last years of middle school and you have to do well for high-school. Also my younger self and the me now helps out at my mom’s job or my aunt’s job because they are in education and I would go around helping teachers. This summer we went on a trip and went out of state to visit family members and my little cousins were there. So when someone had to go do something I would just babysit them. Volunteering is something that I really enjoy and when I think about it I never thought about volunteering being an act of leadership. I was just doing what was in my personality. The other day I was at my mom’s job and it was parent teacher conference night and I was talking to one of the mom’s about magnet schools and about the school I go too and when I was finished she told me that I sound like a real scholar and that I seem like a good leader which made me feel proud of myself.
