my coach motivated me to finish strong. She had me go on a white mat and throw my back-handspring by myself. Once I did that I realized I was stronger and better than before. I continued to do that until I was tired and couldn’t handle myself anymore. From that day on, I never stopped practicing until I thought it was almost perfect. Another experience in life that taught me “hard work pays off” is when I first started applying for jobs as a 15-year-old. To remind you, not many places hired at age 15, although I was turning 16 in a few short months. I applied at “Get Go”, “Rick’s Doughboys”, and a few other places. I never thought I was going to get a call, until one day I got a call from “Get Go”. At first, I was so excited and wanted the job, but then I started having mixed emotions about it because I get anxiety when it comes to associating with people. I almost didn’t call back for the job, but my sister told me I need it for the experience of what “adult hood” will be like. She always told me what I needed to do to achieve what I wanted. I told myself I needed it for the money because I knew I was going to be driving soon and I wanted my own car. I mainly got the job to pay off what was mine and take on responsibility. I almost have my car paid off and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. I also continued to work on my speaking skills and I overcame my fear of conversating with customers. Finally, freshman year I took all academic classes, doubling up, wondering if it was a bright decision or not.
I thought that having a job was going to make it difficult. My sisters both explained to me that I would be able to do it because I have so much going for me in life and they don’t see me giving up. I took that into consideration and thought to myself, “I’m going to finish this year with all A’s to make my family proud.” The year went on and I didn’t give up even when I felt like I was in the rust. I had tests about 2-3 times a week, but at the time I was working till 10 at night. I had to keep my head up because I felt like I was failing towards the end of the year and I knew giving up wasn’t the correct answer. I was just so stressed and exhausted. My sisters helped me sort my life and showed me ways of overcoming challenges. They encouraged me to study, finish homework and go to work. I was never alone. I was able to fulfill my school year with all A’s. My hardwork paid off. In conclusion, I am proud to have learned the life lesson, “hard work pays off.” It has occurred in my life more than once. Everyone should continue to work for what they want. Success is a great
feeling.
