College Education
College College, an experience you will never forget. College is supposed to be an amazing step towards your future. There are many hopes and fears about starting college. Achieving your hopes and letting go of your fears is what’s needed most. I believe that I have the same hesitations about college as most high school students. I have several concerns about being out on my own and not knowing what to do when I encounter difficult situations or decisions. Financial worries and the burden it will cause my family if I do not succeed in getting scholarships. I also have doubts about balancing a job and keeping up with my studies. How will I react to college life once I get there? At the same time, college life brings with it hope. Getting into a university and majoring in nursing is what I would like to do. While attending college, I would like to live in my apartment which is close to my family. I feel that family support is a crucial part of my future. My goal is to focus on a four year nursing program and graduating with a RN – BSN degree. When I achieve my dreams I would like to prove to my parents and the rest of my family that I did it on my own and I’m one step closer to a great career. My hopes and fears about college are what I imagine and fret about. Looking forward to my future and telling myself I can go all the way in the career I want to fulfill. I’m going to take this experience and cherish it once I achieve my goal. So, I leave myself one question. What is college really about? Will I choose FEAR or AMBITIONS? [continues]

    Oedipus Tragic Hero

Aristotle uses six different points to define a tragic hero. The tragic hero must be of noble stature and have greatness. Though the tragic hero is pre-eminently great, he/she is not perfect. The hero’s downfall is partially his/her own fault, the result of free choice, not of accidental means. The hero’s misfortune is not wholly deserved and the punishment exceeds the crime. The fall is not pure loss. And though it arouses solemn emotion, tragedy does not leave the audience in a state of depression. (VCC Lit Online) Using Aristotle’s definition of a tragic hero, we will show that Oedipus in Oedipus the King is in fact a tragic hero and how his decisions led to his downfall.…

Determining the rights of non-human animals and deciding how to treat them may not be a choice available to our human society. As an advocate for the rights of animals, Tom Reganʻs three main goals are to abandon the use of animals in any scientific research, discontinue all commercial animal agriculture, and to completely terminate both commercial and sport animal hunting. To support these intentions, Regan argues that every human and non-human animal possesses inherent value, which makes them all more than a physical object or vessel. He then states that possessing inherent value allows every human and non-human to have rights of their own. To further his argument, Regan claims that the any human and non-human retaining rights requires equal treatment and respect from others. To conclude his argument, Regan states that due to these reasons, non-human animals cannot be treated as resources and must be treated by humans as equals. In this paper, I object to Reganʻs third premise, which states that non-human and human animals must be treated as equals and with respect, because our communication barrier with non-human animals restricts us from determining their notion of equal treatment or respect, and that attempting to do so could…
