College: Education and Effective Lesson
College
Expectations and college go hand in hand. Colleges have ridiculous expectations for us as students and students have this expectation that in college they will find their lives purpose, which is equally as ridiculous. My expectation for college as the rest of the student population is to find what I am meant to do and become a master at that particular thing. As of right now I want to become a teacher so my expectation for college is for it to educate me on becoming the best teacher possible. I want to leave college with the skills that allow me to hold the attention of a class, skills that give me the ability to teach an effective lesson, and those that give me the ability to make a different in someone’s future.
My expectation for college revolves around gaining the knowledge behind being an effective teacher. I believe this would include holding the attention of a class because from experience if a teacher can’t hold the attention of the class then nobody will listen and in return the material in which they are teaching is not comprehended by the students. Also, I want to have the skills that give me the ability to teach an effective lesson. Although holding the class attention is a part of an effective lesson I know it is not that simple and there are many parts. I want to learn all the tricks in the book that allow me teach a lesson that all my students comprehend and retain. Additionally, another part of that expectation in becoming an effective teacher includes learning the skill that gives me the ability to make a different in someone’s future. I do not want to be a teacher that is just a stop on my future student’s education journey. I want them to take away something from my class that will help them in the future, something that will either make their journey a little easier or change their path.
In conclusion, I want to leave college with the skills needed to be a great teacher. Some that I specifically wish to achieve are gaining skills

Teachers are like the water in a lake, and students are like the boats. The higher the water level, the higher the boat will be. When the lake decreases in depth the boats will sink lower. The analogy shows “Students float to the mark you set” (Rose 164). There are many examples of when I have floated to the mark set by my teachers throughout my education. Some were highly skilled and others were there to just give the lesson and go home at the end of the day. My experience with teachers that had no vested interest in their students was sub par. I dreaded classes with teachers that were not enthusiastic about teaching. Ms.Wennel was my Spanish teacher throughout high school. She was having family problems and her mind was pre-occupied with everything but teaching Spanish. Ms.Wennel was never available after school to help students if they were having trouble. Eventually I acquired the same mentality she had: get there, do what I had to do, and get out. The mark she set was low and that affected my mentality. On the other hand, the classes that I enjoyed and learned the most were the ones with highly motivated and skilled teachers. My sophomore English teacher just received her masters from James Madison University. Ms.Mulner came into school everyday with a smile…

As a teacher in the learning environment I feel it is very important to meet the requirements and needs of the Students. It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that the Students feel that they can express themselves and self realise their true potential. The single most important attribute of a good teacher is that they are approachable in all aspects of the training. You are responsible for the guiding, developing and the overall safeguarding of the learner. As ‘thee’ mentor flexibility and diversity are useful and key tools in your approach to the academic environment. Although the roles and responsibilities in education are varied, as a teacher you should standardise your practice with others and prepare delivery material. Following SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely) teaching theory is a great aid to preparing your lesson. The purpose of setting goals is for those goals to be achieved; using the SMART criteria helps ensure that the goals are within reason and attainable. Setting objectives will empower the learner to address certain issues pertaining to any goal that is not being achieved. A well detailed, well-setup goal has the best chance of being achieved. Having the ability to listen, support and guide, be inspiring, clear communication with your Students, other professionals and stakeholders, promote appropriate behaviour, being reflective, which means learning from success aswell as mistakes, and being aware of support mechanisms (thecriticalblog, 2013). As a teacher you are also responsible for identifying learner’ specific needs, this is critical because if these are not identified the training will not achieve the intended outcome. There are many methods in which we can you use to determine the level of our learner such as using assessments to determine where our learner is educationally. Having an…

With advancements in technology, some students have chosen to complete their schoolwork through the Internet, rather than in traditional classrooms. Those who support a traditional classroom approach to learning argue that it provides more of an opportunity for students to interact with the teacher and other students. Those who feel that learning over the Internet is better argue that it allows students to learn anytime and anywhere they choose. Do you feel education is better provided in traditional classrooms or when offered over the Internet? Write an essay to be read by a classroom teacher in which you persuade the reader that either traditional classroom education or Internet-based learning is better. The first excerpt asserts that a diverse college education outside of one’s field can be ineffective and unnecessary for many students. Doing so, it challenges colleges’ self-imposed necessity to create well-rounded individuals. To support this claim, the author presents the concept that if students are disinterested in a certain subject, they won’t retain the information as well as a subject they are interested in. This statement appeals to logic. The idea that disinterest prevents learning is only a short step in reasoning to the opinion that students shouldn’t attend disinteresting classes. In many cases, this is valid. Unrelated courses can take valuable study time and effort away from courses associated with one’s intended major. Further, If students choose not to put much effort into courses they find insignificant, it can cause academic…

    College Expectation

High school seniors have a lot of pressure on them to figure out what’s their next step after graduation, whether it’s going into the workforce, military, or college. Even though the choice to choose between the three is theirs to make, the stress of college is always put on their shoulders. An individual from Youniversitytv.org said something that struck a light bulb and it states “these days, there is a great emphasis placed on students going to college, almost to the point of expectation”. At a very young age we learn that college was the way to go but the process to get into college is so intense it made some people wanted to rethink their choice. At that moment I knew that college was going to be no joke and so did my peers but I didn’t sweat it because I knew “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Once we were finally in college we were spoken to about the integrity policy and how serious it’s taken, and we were given all these rules from the RA, and so much more. After the first 2 weeks of college many students, including myself, felt like their brains were going to explode and it made many of them take a step back and make sure the priorities for college were on the right track mentally and physically When given this assignment we were asked to think of things that affect us or something we were scared of and college expectations was the first thing to come to my mind. College expectation is a very broad topic so my goal is to break it down even further and give the aspect of expectations when it comes to academics and its outcomes on students.…
