“Life’s what you make it”

When I was a little child, my mom used to take me to many acting and singing clubs, somehow, they were called “The talent schools”, as I remembered. The professors taught me how to dance, sing, and perform on stage like a super star in front of the bunch of audiences. Because of the long-term training in the previous years, I have maintained myself to be confident in the crowd, and good communication with people around me. Nonetheless, I always imagined of a successful singer or artist who follows the soulful and beautiful of life. Growing up through junior high school, I tried my best to participate in every competition of acting and audition of voice to chase my dream. Life is always an amazing mystery once I found myself so addicted to learning English, as well as English TV programs, such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, American Idol, and so on. I virtually forgot a “star-truck” dream, and started to open a new career. Relying to the decent of learning social relations ability, I am so independent to follow media communication as my main major in college and higher studies in the future.
In case my transcript isn't a clear indication that I am bad at math and have always failed at math, let me put it this way- despite all its exciting equations and tantalizing theorems, I still manage to screw up any, and every, mathematical problem I encounter. Throughout the years, many math teachers have attempted to offer wonderful pieces of advice like "try studying" or "pay attention." I even had many teachers suggested me to look at math the same way I did to my beloved Vietnamese language. Unfortunately, math is like Mongolian to me and, needless to say, I don't speak Mongolian. That explains the reason why I did not choose business to study though my father has worked on it for over 30 years. Surprisingly, I never thought to be a business woman before. Not only because I am not good at math, but also, simply, I could not find any passion to learn business even once. To make my dream come true, I started to watch and research on how remarkable a TV show succeeds, how they run the whole telecast, and how they bring it to more and more viewers effectively. I have tried very hard in school and social activities since it’s helpful for my major. I used to work in Student Leadership in Primary School, Secondary School and High School for almost 8 years as an Event Organizer, Class Leader, Contributor, Coordinator, Secretary Event, Judges, and Advisor in Student Leadership Department for new students... That’s how communications approached. When I first told everyone about my decision, I had many different responses. My dad has always been a great encouragement. He let me follow my dream though we used to fight a lot about my major which differs from our family business. However, some of my friends said that communications is unreachable in Vietnam, since I have to experience tons of “gifted” exercises such as hosting a talk show, working as a leader, running some big events, traveling around to meet people, and cooperating with others. I personally don’t think those are impossible as they said. I decide my dream, I go for it. Moreover, if I’m afraid of those experiences, I will be able to do nothing besides failing. I own a strong passion to this major; and I’m interested in Psychology and Communications, so there is no reason to deny what I want to be in the future. I believe I can handle obstacles. I may not be as smart as others, but I’m a hard-working student. I realize patience is essential for any field of studying. In addition, I’m curious about cultural studies and human’s mind. I have gained so many open-minded knowledge thanks to classes required for communications.
I have always been self-reliant talking to different kind of people, since out-going is one of my personalities. In the country where diversity took place, the United States, even a word I talk can cause many troubles. Therefore, thinking and observing carefully what I am going to say or do are quite necessary and efficiently. Out-going is a gift, but how to use that gift is more important. Communications is a fabulous environment where I interact with people from different backgrounds and races. This is a good opportunity to practice communicating with others from various ethnic groups.
That’s the conclusion of choosing to work in Student Leadership in the past 8 years. I was noticed at the time I helped my advisor to present a talk show in Primary school, as a host, a “tour guide” of a show, it was imperative to speak fluently without the script and be confident to look at the audiences as much as possible. Though I didn't have an impeccable scholastic record, I made a conscious effort and continually coaxed myself to try harder with my schoolwork. I also ran for numerous club chairs offered at my school, I continued to voice my opinions and offer help when it was needed.
The next four years in Secondary school and two-year High school, working in Student Leadership was such another great opportunity for me to get involved to society and among students association. Became a leader, fortunately, I understood how certain it was to be clever, independent, responsible and sociable to help students to get along with school activities and social relationships on top. Throughout many energetic outdoor games, talent shows, volunteer work and loads of cooperative events with other schools and entertainment centers, my self-assurance and communicative competence were growing up so fast. I could freely go straight to ask people for help or give them a hand with no hesitates; I went to many conferences in different institutes and organizations to talk to various leaders, officers, supervisors from student associations around the city in order to learn the way they reinforced and promoted the school activity system to participants; I exchanged a lot of interesting information about the working experience that they had been through, as well as the chance of training leadership.
I choose Seattle Central Community College (SCCC), which is the best decision that I have ever made to be my starting point because SCCC has a great variety of students. Moreover, intercultural communication in SCCC gives me a great chance to discover respect other cultures, my own is not an exception. Family is a sacred gift that life has given us, in order to pay for their love and support; I follow the goal of getting into a well-known university. Not only that, since my family hasn’t have any members who continued to study higher, I want to shine for my family by stepping my feet into a university which is famous for my studies, Media Communications. As the youngest member in my family, I also want to prove that the young generation is my family’s future, the nation’s future and even the world’s future. My dream leads me to be a successful TV producer and telecast manager to bring the voice and new entertainment to the audience, to be responsible for all the administrative aspects of creating a film or television shows, and be in charge of taking out loans or applying for grants that could be used for any projects. After finishing two-years college at Seattle Central, I want to transfer to a university to continue my education. And University of Wisconsin - Madison is my first priority choice; I choose this school because Madison provides the top famous Communications programs in the US. The university will offer me a variety of internship opportunities to work for many popular TV channels worldwide.
