College Football Coach Character Analysis
Coaching in college football is a cutthroat business. People expect results from the program. Different styles are shown from the leader of the team, but coaches Urban Meyer and Dabo Swinney are prime examples of how to coach players. These coaches care about the overall person instead of just a football player, about their families, and the culture of the team. Urban Meyer is the head football coach at The Ohio State University. Meyer grew up in Ohio and was drafted in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves. He spent a few years in the Minor system for as a shortstop. He later left and joined the University of Cincinnati as a defensive back and graduated with a major in psychology. He later went to The Ohio State University to get a Masters …show more content…
If you want to be a Christian coach your culture should reflect your Christian morals. The family is important, Urban left his job for his family and Dabo is very open about how much he loves his family. Making the team into a second family is a big aspect of team culture because it allows you to love players and keep them accountable. The revealing of character is when coaches who are full of God can instruct and transform culture. There are many opportunities that happen in the world of sport to teach players how to be men or women of character. I know personally the moments that I got coached up on character on the field were the ones I remembered most. There are so many opportunities to teach players to be different than the culture we live in. Coaches need to be careful in the culture we live in. If the coach is not in a Christian atmosphere the coach will most likely get in trouble for bringing up God in sports. There are ways to teach transformation, one way is to quote scripture but not quote the scripture. Use the principle that the bible teaches without bringing up the bible. This will teach players Godly values without getting in trouble for talking about religion with players. Transforming culture is a lot easier when God is the center of your program and talking about God and the pursuit of Him is allowed at the

    Bear Bryant has one of the winningest records of all time, with a 323-85-17 (Sports-Reference.com). Bryant coached at Alabama for 25 years, and in that span, he won 6 national championships, but Alabama was not the only place that Bear coached, he also coached at Maryland, Kentucky, and Texas A&M previous to Alabama (Biography.com).
