Although free college tuition sounds like a dream come true, there are many more negatives that would out rules the few positives. (bridge) College tuition should not be free in the United States.
Making college tuition free will not actually be free, public education is primarily funded by property tax. Taxes will go up and all property owners will be paying for the tuition of other students whether they have college aged children or not. Then when the students that are attending their “free” college default to their student loan it is the taxpayer that will shoulder the burden. There are many adults who would take advantage of having the opportunity of free college. For instance a stay at home parent may decide that they want a degree, but have no intentions of future work, while their tuition is getting paid for by hard working citizens.There will also be students who will work less hard because they are not the ones paying for their education.
