So the colonists are currently fighting for their freedom from the British. I hope the colonists win this war, …show more content…

“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power.” (Patrick Henry) Patrick Henry didn’t wish to sit idly by as the British took away there rights one by one without even regarding the pleads of colonists for peace. Reflection: I remember looking at my mom when I found out and asking her why. Looking back, I was too young to know what the word grieve meant, so all I knew was my dad was never coming back; this was a man that I loved and would miss all my life. To this day, I often wonder what he would be like as a father, grandfather and great grandfather. We were not allowed to go to the funeral because as my grandmother told me, “you and your sisters are too young”. It was not until I was in my twenties that I found out he had committed suicide and when I found out I thought, what the hell? I was angry with my mom for a long time for keeping such an important thing from me. The rest of my sisters knew, but not me. Years later, I asked my mom why I was the last to find and she told me it was because I was his favorite child and she knew how it would affect me.…
