Color Code Portex Case Study
HI,

We have a patient in ICU who has a color code Portex (trach) there was some confusion on what size it is because when you look at the trach there are two numbers: Remember that Portex are color coded this one is white which would make it a 8.0. I also included a conversion trach chart so you can see which trach you would select if we do not have the same trach avaialbe. Please see me if you have quesitons.

In the example below if this Portex was organce it would be a size 6.0.

The categories in the Current Procedural Terminology code set is Category I codes, which is where the most common set of codes are in the main body of CPT, with five digits and no decimals (Valerius et al, 2012). To help one better understand this section of the CPT is to remember that Category I is this most used in healthcare facilities to describe a procedure or service. Furthermore, the procedures or services covered in Category I are in and out patient office visits, which is used for evaluation and management of a new patient(Valerius et al, 2012). Also procedures done with anesthesia on the upper posterior abdominal wall, as well as the removal of indwelling tunneled pleural catheter with cuff; radiologic examination, ACTH stimulation, and Intravenous infusion (Valerius et al, 2012). For example, a 30- year-old woman came into the office for an initial inpatient consultation (99251), which can be found under the Evaluation and Management section of the CPT manual codes 99201-99499(Valerius et al, 2012). Remembering that these codes have no letters in them, and they contain five numbers can be helpful with distinguishing the difference between the other categories.…

As a response to the Black Codes, Congress extended the power of the Freedmen’s Bureau. It passed the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1875, and the Enforcement Acts between 1870 and 1871.(Brinkley) These federal efforts, attempting to permit the Negro to achieve some dignity and equality in American life, provided him with food, housing, and established schools and gave him the right to vote. However, these measures failed to protect the civil rights of African Americans as waves of violence and intimidation led by the Ku Klux Klan swept over the south in the 1860s and 1870s. It used terrorism to frighten and prohibit African Americans from…

Although some African Americans were granted freedom there was still a multitude of influences resisting their freedom. A key factor of these was known as the black codes, which were strengthened by state legislatures in the 1830's. The black codes are defined by the book as "laws passed by states and municipalities denying many rights of citizenship to free black people" (Faragher, 241). The black codes were extremely represive and made it so African Americans couldn't carry firearms, purchase slaves, testify against whites, hold office, or serve in the militia. It is important to recoginize that "except for the right to own property, free people had no civil rights" (Faragher 241-242). However, poor whites were the "landless" people of the…

Black Codes were a set of laws passed by the Southern States in the United States in 1865 and 1866 after slavery was abolished. Southern state legislatures adopted Black Codes that restricted the right and movements of the former slaves; this caused Republicans to become further disillusioned with President Johnson. Black Codes prohibited blacks from renting or borrowing money to buy land and also prohibited them from testifying against whites in court. They also denied blacks basic rights, and enforced state by state. The Black Codes also included the segregation of public spaces, prohibited blacks from learning how to read or write, marry whites, and kept them from being able create public gatherings. These codes were enacted because of economic…
