"Blue as still water. Blue as the eyes of a siamese cat."
She expresses her calm and cool feelings through the color blue. She refers to the still water, which symbolizes tranquility, serenity and the state of being at peace.

Imagery has always been a powerful mode of forcing the reader to experience poetry as it was meant to. In "The Blue Heron", the poet, Theodore Roberts, uses a variety of color to engage the audience in the vivid imagery he presents. He tries to create a happy scene in the mind's eye; one of health and untainted natural beauty. He describes the scene with "green lanced through/ With amber and gold and blue", describing the flora and bodies of water that fill the area. He also describes the "roses pinker than dawn", insinuating the rich floral beauty and abundance of nature that exists in the area. Then the poem takes on a more somber tone, with images of "grey ... embers of yesterday" and "grey feather." The toned down, dark colors have a negative effect on the feelings that the reader experiences, and that helps the poet get the sentiments that he means to across. This contrast of the bright colors against the darker colors also signifies how the blue heron is viewed by the poet. He seems to portray the bird as a two faced mystery, showing itself as a mindless creature that barely understands that which is around it, but with hidden grievances against the world. Images of the heron being "still as an image made/ Of mist and smoke" but with "eyes [that] are alive like gems" makes the audience hold a view of the heron as being an animal that holds a grudge against something. Using these powerful, vivid images, not only does Roberts convey his message, but he also forces people to think about how things are not always what they…

In the essay, How It Feels to Be Colored Me, Hurston reference to “the Great Stuffer of Bags” is not meant to be a serious engagement with religion but it can be taken as an engagement to religion. In addition, it can also be taken metaphorically which can taken that every bag has a different color but everything that's in a bag has the same thing as what the other ones have. Furthermore, the conception of race has been tied to larger system of belief such as religion. This can be shown because there has been religious discrimination on individuals. This causes individuals to devalue or treat a person or group differently because of what they do or what they believe.…

The films Primary Colors (1998), Election (1999), and The Ides of March (2011) are focused around political campaigning having one major theme in common: political campaigns reveal one’s true character as well as shape it. Primary Colors and The Ides of March both focus on candidates and campaign teams who are running for the Democratic Party’s Presidential nomination. Although Election is instead about high school students running for student body president and the teacher who oversees the government and election, it still delivers the same message. All of these films center around corruption in politics and especially campaigns. Movies such as these have a positive effect on political culture because they encourage citizens to hold politicians…

There are many traits which I have that co-respond with the blue card. Sympathetic is a key trait in which I use when describing myself to others. When I watch movies, I put myself into various characters positions and I tend to cry if they are put in or dealing with stressful situations. I find myself doing this not only with fictional characters, but with my friends as well. Another trait from the blue card in which I associate myself with is enthusiasm . I tend to become very excited about various events. I believe that compassion walks hand in hand with sympathy therefor I believe I am compassionate as well. As I mentioned, I cry when my friends or fictional characters are put in stressful situations. In addition to crying, I try my best to help or pretend to help with the situation. I give my best advice and give them an example of how I felt in a similar situation and how it turned out. I like to believe it helps them in one way or another. . I enjoy talking about my past experiences, my life journey, and anything in between. There are many more traits from the blue card that I associate myself with, however these 4 are the words I found to be the most obvious.…

Water is the one of the most primal archetypes. It represents resurrection, purification and redemption. In the case of The Things They Carried, water is a constant companion to the characters of the story, whether good or bad. Water, in this book though, can also represent feeling of guilt and shame and the struggle involved with war. In some instances, the characters are desperate to find the purification that water typically provides. Sometimes they get that and sometimes they don’t. In this novel, water, typically mentioned in the form of a river, cannot only symbolize life but also death.…

Life on the Color Line is a memoir by Gregory Howard Williams talking about his life and what it was like to grow up in Muncie, Indiana as a white colored boy. It starts off in Virginia where the Williams family owns and lives in an Open House Cafe for all the war soldiers and veterans black and white alike. Since they were “on the color line” of Virginia bordering between white and black neighborhoods, Greg’s father Buster was able to house both colors in the bar and keep them separated even though it was technically against the law to serve blacks and whites under the same roof. Buster was half black and half white but in order to protect his reputation passed as an Italian, making the boys think they too were part Italian. It wasn’t until the brutal divorce of their parents that Greg and his brother Mike discovered that they were actually half Black. At such a young age, Greg and Mike had to accept that the comfort they once experienced living as white boys in a white neighborhood would change as they moved to the ghetto in Muncie.…

Marlon Marshall in my opinion wasn’t serious about the juvenile program. You can tell that he really loved what he do as in selling drugs. Marlon loved how much money that was coming in everyday; he isn’t ready to give up that kind of lifestyle just yet. He basically states that he’s still selling drugs while he’s in the juvenile program. I think he wants to do better in life, but the only thing he knows is what he grew up around. Once he returns home he cannot violate any of his probation meaning: Getting arrested for a new offense while on probation. Failure to pay your fines, failure to perform or complete community service as instructed, failure to appear in court to show progress the probationer made on probation. failure to submit paperwork to court, failure to report to probation officer as scheduled, failure to pay probation fees to the probation department, failure to submit drug test, failure to submit to search and seizure by police officers of your home or vehicle. If he fail or violate any of his probation, the court may extend his probation, charge added probation terms, he will have to serve a brief time in jail, or revoke his probation altogether and require you to serve out any remaining time of his beginning sentence in prison. As far as Marlon future his goals was to go to college and enter the Police Academy. At the rate he is going his future won’t be so bright if he’s going to continue to sell drugs. To become a police officer you cannot have any kind of misdemeanor or felonies on your record. To better his future, I hope he change, have a turn around, become successful, and reach his goals.…

Pink is very prominent in the painting. A piece of the figure’s clothing is pink and the clouds are pink. The winged children have a pink hue as well. The color white is significant because the bird above the woman is white. The light in this painting appears to be radiating from the woman, further deeming her importance. The lighting and colors found in the work are used to show that the communication between the bird and the woman is important…

Throughout The Color Purple, and Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice Walker and Arthur Golden respectively present the struggle individuals face to establish self-empowerment within oppressive societies. Both authors explore the degrading effects that marital relationships have on individuals by setting their texts in a society where mostly everyone conforms to the presented social expectations that women cannot depend on themselves. It is also made apparent by Walker and Golden that due to gender stereotypes, characters both female and male continuously contend with themselves to be empowered. However, towards the denouement of the texts, Walker shows that due to adopting a positive mindset Celie is able to achieve individuality whereas Golden suggests…
