Columbine High School Shootings

In 1995 the term "school violence" associated with frightening images of terrified children running a school building where his classmates had been shot. Highly publicized shootings at schools drew nationwide attention to little known places like Pearl, Mississippi; Paducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Springfield, Oregon. In 1999, the Columbine High School became the most famous high school in the United States because two boys were in a shootout, killing 12 students and a teacher before he committed suicide. School administrators eager increased security measures, hired a new type of police officer known as "school resource officer," and applied strict zero tolerance policies.
