Columbus: Hero or Villain

Yes Columbus did discover America, but does this make him a hero? I don’t think so. Columbus went to explore the ocean and he found a new continent, North America. He was actually looking for India and its gold but found a different place. Exploration of North America brought so many bad things to people. All of those things happened because of Columbus. So, Do you think Columbus is a villain? To begin with, Christopher Columbus is a villain is the fact that he stole America from the natives. His job was to find a passage to Asia but instead he found this new land and took it upon himself to take their treasures and gold for his own country and instead of trading like they would do with Asians he took advantage of their nobleness and didn’t just take their gold but made them work to death Second reason , that makes Columbus a villain is the fact that he destroyed the culture of the Indians and forced them to Christianity, believing that they were superior. He was also giving women less power and taking rights from them, and women had to work at fields and men had to work mining gold and treasures that was taken from them. A lot of people were protesting but if they protested, they would get killed. That's another thing that makes Columbus a villain. Last but not least, Christopher Columbus caused African slavery. When the Native Americans started to die out they started bringing people from Africa as slaves and made them travel in ships with improper conditions and cruel manners. By the end of their journey bout 15 percent of all Africans who made the voyage died, most from the accumulation of brutal treatment and inadequate care. Some who could have caused all of this cannot be considered a hero. Columbus wasn't that much of a hero, as many people would say. It's easy to call him a villain after hearing all the details of Columbus' adventure. All the destruction and pain that he brought to people makes him a tyrant. Don't you think?
